KKR recovered from their unexpected defeat against PBKS to beat DC by 7 wickets in the IPL 2024 on Monday, April 29 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It was a rather one-sided affair as the Knights romped home with 21 balls to spare. With the win, KKR tightened their grip on the top four and took one more step towards qualifying for the playoffs. The Capitals, on the other hand, are in dire straits as they find themselves in a must-win position from here on.
KKR vs DC, IPL 2024 Highlights
The gamble to bat first backfired as DC could only post 153 for 9 on the board. Prithvi Shaw hit Mitchell Starc for 3 fours in the first over, but Vaibhav Arora removed the big fish in the very next over. From there on, Delhi completely lost their way. Jake Fraser-McGurk threatened to take off before Starc accounted for his wicket.

Abhishek Porel scored 18 and got a start before Harshit Rana dismissed him. Rishabh Pant made his way to 27 off 20, after which Varun Chakravarthy accounted for his wicket. Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers for KKR after he also got the wickets of Tristan Stubbs and Kumar Kushagra to finish with figures of 4-0-16-3.
From DC struggling at 111 for 8, Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with a priceless knock of 35, laced with 5 fours and 1 six. Barring Starc, who replaced Dushmantha Chameera in the XI, all the KKR bowlers had decent economy rates. Although he dismissed Fraser-McGurk, he leaked 43 runs and was not entrusted to bowl the last over.
Phil Salt powers KKR to victory
The KKR opening batters Phil Salt and Sunil Narine came out firing on all cylinders. The duo plundered 79 in the powerplay and brought the required run-rate down to below a run-a-ball. Salt, the leading run-scorer for the Knights, racked up his half-century off 27 balls. Even as Narine was sedate in the beginning, Salt took the onus upon himself to play the extravagant shots.
Just after the powerplay, Axar Patel gave DC a breather after dismissing Narine, who could only score 15 off 10. Even as Narine got out, Salt did not stop and kept playing his shots. He scored 68 runs off 33 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes before becoming Axar’s second victim.
Rinku Singh was sent up the order to bat at No.3, but he flattered to deceive after Lizaad Williams sent him packing.
