PUTRAJAYA: Political activist Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, has been detained for allegedly insulting His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

Papagomo’s statement was made in a two-minute, 46-second video, where he questioned why the King met the owner of KK Super Mart, which was embroiled in the socks controversy.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the arrest was made by Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigation Unit on Tuesday (April 30).

“He was detained following a police report lodged by a 41-year-old trader who saw the video on social media on Monday (April 29).

“Papagomo was detained at his home in Setapak,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (April 30).

Razarudin said they would make a remand application for Papagomo adding that the case was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“He is being held at the Dang Wangi police headquarters,” he said.
