Air coolers, mist fans among measures planned for Delhi voters on polling day – MASHAHER

Air coolers, mist fans, protected waiting areas and availability of essential medical equipment are being planned in Delhi to ensure smooth electoral process in Delhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the city.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi P Krishnamurthy on Friday convened a high-level meeting with key stakeholders to discuss the anticipated heatwave conditions on the polling day.

The meeting aimed at ensuring seamless voting processes and a large electorate turnout by taking care of the comfort and safety of voters across the city.

The CEO convened the meeting in the wake of the heatwave forecast made by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Various stakeholder departments such as the Municipal Corporation Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Cantonment Board, Directorate General of Health Services, Delhi Jal Board, and Department of Women & Child Development, attended the meet.

CEO Krishnamurthy directed these representatives to put in place adequate measures at all polling stations, ensuring that no voter faces any discomfort due to the anticipated heatwave while casting their vote.

Proactive steps are being taken to equip each polling booth in Delhi with safe drinking water facilities, air coolers, mist fans, protected waiting areas, and essential medical equipment and supplies to ensure smooth voting process on polling day in the capital.

He also instructed local bodies and the health department to deploy requisite paramedical personnel with necessary medicines, including ORS, at each polling location in Delhi on polling day.

Considering there are approximately 13,637 polling stations spread across 2,627 locations in Delhi for the Lok Sabha polls, coupled with over a hundred thousand personnel, CEO Krishnamurthy reiterated his commitment to delivering free, fair and safe elections.

Provisions have also been made to offer pick-and-drop facilities for differently-abled voters and senior citizens, to encourage their participation in the electoral process as well.

Stakeholder representatives have assured the CEO that they will render all necessary services as required at each polling location.

Delhi will go to polls in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 25, with the counting of votes to be carried out on June 4.
