IPOH: Police have arrested two men for possessing drugs worth over RM262,000 inside a car in Simpang, Taiping.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the drugs weighing more than 21,037g were found in a sack inside the car on May 3 at about 11.15pm.

He said a 41-year-old fisherman and a 47-year-old food outlet helper were arrested to assist in investigations.

“The car was stopped at Jalan Medan Simpang, and inside the sack, we found a total of 46 transparent plastic packages, believed to be heroin.

“Initial urine tests on both the men found them to be positive for morphine, and both of them have previous drug-related offences,” he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here on Monday (May 5).

Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan said that based on investigations carried out, this syndicate has been active since February this year.

“The amount of drugs seized can be used by about 20,000 drug addicts.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and both the suspects have been remanded until May 9 to help in investigations,” he added.

He said from Jan until May 5, police in Perak had managed to arrest 7,171 people involved in various types of drug offences.

“Both synthetic and traditional types of drugs worth over RM4mil have been seized during that period” he added.
