Manipur government allocates Rs 6.90 crore relief package for hailstorm victims – MASHAHER


The Manipur government on Monday announced a relief package worth Rs 6.90 crore from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) for people affected by the recent hailstorm.

During a press conference on Monday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that over 15,425 houses have been damaged due to the recent hailstorm.

The relief package will allocate Rs 50 lakh to each of the five valley districts and Rs 40 lakh to each of the eleven affected hill districts through their respective district administrations.

Biren Singh mentioned that one person died due to the hailstorm and cyclone, and many houses were damaged.

The state government has initiated measures to provide essential commodities and items to the hailstorm victims. Relief measures, such as providing CGI sheets, have been undertaken by deputy commissioners of all districts since Sunday.

Houses in districts such as Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Churachanpur were damaged the most. According to preliminary survey reports, 5,600 houses in Imphal East and 1,179 houses in Bishnupur were hit by hailstorms.

Currently, people affected by the hailstorm have been relocated to 42 relief camps in the state.

The survey is ongoing to assess the damage to livestock, farms, vegetables, and vehicles, said the CM.

The state government will provide assistance accordingly, he added.
