Does performing at weddings make you less of a singer? That was the problem when singers Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Neha Kakkar clashed on the most recent episode of Superstar Singer 3. In a viral footage from the singing reality program, the two are seen arguing when Abhijeet argued it is beneath one’s dignity to accept money to sing at weddings, prompting a harsh response from Neha, who advises the contestant differently.

The moment appears after a young participant, who is still on stage, has completed his act. While Abhijeet made his views, the singer added that the little child should not sell his paintings for a low price.
“If someone pays you to sing at a wedding, usmein aukaat kam ho jaati hai. Meri aukaat hai, main bol deta hu main nahi gaunga. No power or money in the world can buy you,” he said. Neha differed from the singer and added, “You earn after working hard — that can be through weddings also, there’s nothing wrong with that. Fans can call you because they like you.”
To which Abhijeet interrupted and told her, “Don’t take what I said personally.” Neha replied, “I didn’t take it personally sir but because we are educating a child…” Abhijeet then interrupted her again, while Neha continued to shout over him to emphasize her point.
“I am also doing the same. When it comes to aukaat… Just listen to me… There is a difference in singing for Rs 1 crore and rejecting Rs 1 crore. That’s what I am teaching,” Abhijeet kept his point.
Neha then calmly told him, “Sir, all that I am trying to say is that no work is small,” as visuals showed Abhijeet folding his hands to signal that he is done speaking. She continued, “If you have to sing at weddings, please do. If someone is giving you respect, calling you with love, there is nothing wrong with singing at weddings.”
The graphics then showed the contestant nodding while Abhijeet sat in his chair and whispered a ‘wow’, which was drowned out by the audience’s cheering. Abhijeet was a prominent vocalist in the 1990s, doing playback for practically every big celebrity, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, among others.
