HULU SELANGOR: The Election Commission (EC) is expecting a voter turnout of above 75% for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election this Saturday (May 11).
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh urged all eligible voters to exercise their democratic right.
“Let’s not be lax about it or lament that things will be the same even if we voted.
“Each vote contributes to the development of the country,” he told reporters after visiting the early voting centre at the 4th Infantry Division of the Royal Signals Regiment here on Tuesday (May 7).
Earlier, the EC said turnout for early voting had reached 93% as at 2pm.
Early voting involves 863 voters at two centres, namely the multi-purpose hall at the Royal Malaysian Police College and the 4th Infantry Division of the Royal Signals Regiment.
Polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is on May 11.
The by-election sees a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and an Independent candidate.
It is being held following the death of incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, from cancer on March 21.
The state constituency has 40,226 registered voters.
