Gulfport police are searching for a man considered armed and dangerous, who is wanted in the shooting death of a 40-year-old man early Monday at an extended stay hotel.
Gulfport police said the man wanted on a charge of murder is Antwon Duane Williams.
According to police and the Harrison County coroner, Williams is accused of killing Charles Martel Oatis, 40, at an extended-stay hotel on Highway 49.
The shooting was reported around 1:20 a.m. Monday after Oatis collapsed and died outside a manager’s apartment at InTown Suites.
Since the investigation began, Gulfport police determined the shooting happened after Oatis and Williams got into some type of argument and Williams pulled out a gun.
Police say Williams fled the scene after he fatally shot Oatis at the hotel in the 9100 block of Highway 49.
According to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer, Oatis attempted to get help from the hotel manager but collapsed and died before he could tell the manager he had been shot. Oatis died of a single gunshot wound, he said.
Williams, 32, is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 146 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair, police said.
