Arijit Singh remains grounded in simplicity. The renowned playback singer, best known for his soulful rendition of ‘Tum Hi Ho’, recently demonstrated his down-to-earth nature by participating in the democratic process. Alongside his wife Koel Roy, Arijit returned to his roots in Jiaganj, a small town in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal, to cast his vote. Opting for a casual look, Arijit chose to ride a scooter to the polling booth at GSFP School, with Koel accompanying him in traditional attire.

Local admirers avidly followed and captured the couple’s every step as they proceeded down the tiny alleyway to the voting booth. Arijit excitedly showed the audience his inked finger after casting his ballot.

Arijit started his adventure in Jiaganj, where he attended the nearby Sripat Singh College to further his education. The 37-year-old singer, who was first discovered through the reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005, debuted in a Hindi movie in 2011 with the song ‘Phir Mohabbat’ from the movie Murder 2. He sang popular songs like ‘Duaa’ from Shanghai, ‘Uska Hi Banana’ from 1920: Evil Returns, and ‘Raabta’ from Agent Vinod in that same year. He is currently enjoying the popularity of his song ‘Vida Karo’ from Amar Singh Chamkila, which features Diljit Dosanjh as the deceased Punjabi singer’s eponymous character.
