Casting director and filmmaker Mukesh Chhabra recently shed light on the possibility of creating a sequel to the beloved Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi starrer, Dil Bechara. Chhabra expressed his desire to preserve the essence of the original film, emphasizing that the title will forever hold significance in memory of Sushant.

In an interview with News18, Chhabra stated, “I was genuinely planning on making Dil Bechara 2. Dil Bechara is a very special film for me because of so many emotions attached to it and, of course, Sushant. So, I realised that I shouldn’t touch that film. I was making a film which I wanted to name Dil Bechara 2, but that title will always belong to Sushant. I don’t want to use that name. I don’t want to cash on that film ever now. I want to keep its beauty intact.”
The 2020 release of Dil Bechara marked a poignant milestone as it became Sushant’s final film to be released posthumously. The movie debuted on Disney+ Hotstar a month after his demise, serving as a poignant tribute to the talented actor. Chhabra reminisced about his collaboration with Sushant, revealing their shared aspirations for future projects. He recalled, “While we were making Dil Bechara, there were conversations with Sushant on collaborating again soon. I’m someone who likes working with the same people I’ve worked in the past with, as is the case with Ayan (Mukerji) and Ranbir (Kapoor).”
Reflecting on his unfulfilled dreams of collaborating with Rajput on multiple projects, Mukesh Chhabra expressed his heartfelt sentiments, affirming, “I also wanted to work with Sushant on three-four other films. It was my dream.” Dil Bechara remains a poignant adaptation of John Green’s YA novel, ‘The Fault in Our Stars,’ leaving an indelible mark on audiences worldwide.
