Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been winning hearts with his larger-than-life Netflix series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which is set against the pre-Independence era and showcases the deep-rooted nexus of courtesans, Nawabs, and the British officials in Lahore, which was a part of the undivided India. After gaining the status of being one of the ‘most viewed Indian series globally’, the show’s creator Sanjay Leela Bhansali has opened up about the performances, which have been close to his heart.

In an exclusive lunch hosted by the filmmaker, he opened up about working with such an ensemble cast and also shared his thoughts on roping in Adhyayan Suman for the role of Zoravar, who is also the patron of Lajjo aka Richa Chadha. Speaking about the actor’s performance, SLB said, “Adhyayan is such a wonderful kid to work with. His performance really moved me. I was actually shocked to see his performance. I remember Manisha (Manisha Koirala) exclaiming where has this boy been!”. We hear that it was a cherry on the cake for Adhyayan amid all the accolades he has been receiving.
Meanwhile, the actor took to social media to express his gratitude and share his happiness over the love Heeramandi has been garnering. He said, “Heeramandi stands as my very own living proof that dreams can indeed come true, as if everything is always meant to be. To my guiding light Sanjay Sir, your belief in my craft breathed life into Zoravar, igniting a fire within me to strive for excellence. Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar features Manisha Koirala as Mallikajaan, who is the queen of Shahi Mahal but her position is threatened by the arrival of Fareedan aka Sonakshi Sinha. With Waheeda aka Sanjeeda Sheikh waiting for a chance to seek revenge to an innocent Alamzeb falling prey to love, to Bibojaan aka Aditi Rao Hydari becoming scorned in love and joining the Indian revolution, the show traces the lives of these courtesans whose lives are intertwined with emotions of love, betrayal, and a thirst for power and revenge.
