Hillwalker dies after fall from Scottish mountain | UK News – MASHAHER

An experienced hillwalker has died after falling from a mountain in the Scottish Highlands.

The 74-year-old man suffered fatal injuries on his way back down from the summit of Beinn a’ Chrulaiste near Glencoe.

The hiker had spoken to his son at 3.30pm on Saturday after making his way to the top of the mountain, a rescue team said.

He failed to return by 6pm and his mobile phone vanished from the “find my phone” app his son had been using.

Police Scotland said the force was alerted at around 7.15pm and mobilised Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team to the area.

The volunteer rescuers found the man’s body after embarking on a “spread search”.

A rescue helicopter lowered a paramedic who confirmed the man had died and his body was recovered.

A spokesperson for Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team said: ” Our condolences to the man’s friends and family, you are in our thoughts at this time.”

He said: “On behalf of my family, thank you for everything you did to locate my father so quickly. And thank you for being with my brother.

“We are devastated. As a family we are indebted to you all. Not the outcome we all wanted but you found him.”
