Google I/O developer conference has just kicked off and the company has announced tons of updates coming to its Gemini AI model. It announced the launch of the Gemini app, consolidating all features of its popular AI model into one platform. The app – available for Android and iOS – offers an easy-to-use interface, integration with Google services, customisable settings, and real-time updates. Here is a look at the new features that will be available to users with the latest Gemini 1.5 Pro version.
Google has announced significant updates to its Gemini AI, the most advanced version yet. Key features include an expanded context window of up to 1 million tokens, allowing analysis of extensive documents and summarisation of up to 100 emails. Users can upload files directly from Google Drive or their devices, enabling Gemini to provide detailed insights on complex documents, video content, and codebases.
Gemini 1.5 Pro also enhances image understanding, offering functionalities such as extracting recipes from photos of dishes or providing step-by-step solutions to photographed math problems. This version will be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers in over 150 countries and 35 languages.
A new conversational feature, Gemini Live, will soon enable voice-based interactions, allowing users to speak naturally with the AI. This feature aims to assist with tasks like job interview preparation and will eventually support visual inputs through the device camera.
Additionally, Gemini Advanced will introduce a dynamic planning experience, creating personalised itineraries by integrating flight details, meal preferences, and local recommendations. This service synthesizes information from Gmail, Google Maps, and Search to craft custom plans.
Google is also launching Gems, personalised AI versions tailored to specific user needs, such as fitness coaching or culinary assistance. Users can easily configure these Gems by describing their desired functionalities and interaction styles.
Furthermore, Gemini’s integration with Google apps will expand, incorporating tools like Google Calendar, Tasks, and Keep. This will enable users to manage tasks more efficiently, such as adding school assignments to a calendar or converting recipes into shopping lists. Notably, these features will also be available on the web, ensuring users can access Gemini’s full capabilities across devices.
