If words like original beadboard, vintage stove, and wavy glass make your heart start to flutter, then your Tuesday nights just got so much better! Elizabeth and Ethan Finkelstein of Cheap Old Houses fame bring us even more old house eye candy with their brand new HGTV show, Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House?, premiering Tuesday, May 14 at 10 p.m. ET.

Throughout the season’s eight episodes, Elizabeth and Ethan lead potential old house homeowners on the journey from pipe dream to dream home, beginning with taking them on tours of two real estate listings and helping them evaluate their budget-friendly restoration potential.

“This show follows the natural evolution of our Instagram feed, which started off, and still does very much at its heart, showing people old houses for sale,” says Elizabeth. “But as people started buying them [the houses], we started to realize that it would be really fun to help people understand that it is possible to restore them.”

Along with interior designer Jennifer Salvemini and architectural designer Scott Reed, Elizabeth (you may also recognize her name from the pages of Country Living as our go-to old house contributor) and Ethan then help the homeowners begin the uncovering (you won’t believe what’s hiding above that drop ceiling!), restoring (have you ever heard of sponge blasting?), and bringing back to life these amazing character-rich houses and buildings. “This [restoring an old house] is a long game. We get them in the door and it’s up to them to continue to build on the restoration of this house and continue the journey,” says Elizabeth. “It’s giving people the permission and showing them how to do it,” adds Ethan. “We’re trying to inspire America that homeownership can be possible. You can still buy cheap old houses all across America.”
