American hip hop artiste Raja Kumari has ventured into Punjabi music for the first time with Guru Randhawa’s latest track ‘In Love,’ marking a significant step in her musical journey. Reflecting on her collaboration with the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, Kumari shared, “I had a very unique relationship with Sidhu where he really inspired me. We were going to do a second song and he told me, ‘Oh, I would love to hear you sing in Punjabi’. He thought my voice will really suit and sound good in Punjabi.” Moosewala’s untimely demise in May 2022 left Kumari uncertain about fulfilling his wish.

Despite the tragedy, Kumari embraces the opportunity to honor Moosewala’s vision by lending her voice to Punjabi music. “When he passed away, I didn’t know when I would ever get a chance to sing in Punjabi,” she revealed. Raised in the US within a Telugu family, Kumari expresses her deep connection to the Punjabi language and is thrilled to finally realize Moosewala’s suggestion. Her latest track with Randhawa, ‘In Love’, not only marks a personal milestone but also resonates with her as it explores themes of empowerment and love.
‘In Love’ portrays a narrative of a man enamored by a powerful woman, a sentiment that Kumari finds deeply relatable. Through her collaboration with Randhawa, she channels her own experiences and celebrates the strength and allure of empowered women.
