Bundesliga: Thomas Tuchel confirms Bayern Munich exit after extension talks collapse – MASHAHER

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he is leaving Bayern Munich after talks about a possible extension collapsed during the week. Tuchel was set to leave the club at the end of season, as announced in February this year, after an underwhelming campaign. Bayern has since their pursuit for prospective targets come to a dead end.

The likes of Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick and Julian Nagelsmann have all rejected the offer to take up the job, which prompted the Bavarian giants to go back to Tuchel and ask him to stay on. However, the talks failed and Tuchel confirmed on May 17 that he would be leaving the club as an agreement couldn’t be reached during the week. The German tactician refused to go into the details of the talks with the club.

“This is the last press conference here. The February decision remains,” Tuchel said. “There were talks again with the club in the past week but we did not reach an agreement on a continued cooperation so we stick with the February decision.”

“We did not agree but I won’t go into individual points. That all happens behind closed doors.”

Initiative came from the club

Tuchel said that he was 1000 percent behind the club’s decision to part ways and the possibility of a 180-degree turn came from the club itself. However, he said that the reasons behind both parties not reaching an agreement are minimal and not clear to him.

“The decision for me to leave was taken in February so you can imagine that my head, after processing, was 1000% behind that decision,” Tuchel said.

“There was the theoretical possibility of a 180 degree turn now and the initiative came from the club.”

“The reasons why it did not happen, I don’t know, are minimal. Maybe the reasons are not clear, also for the decision in February, but it is what it is,” Tuchel said.

Bayern’s away game against Hoffenheim will be Tuchel’s last one in charge, as the Bavarian giants will look to fend off the threat from Stuttgart and finish second in the league behind champions Leverkusen.
