The NRL Magic Round would be a wonderful addition to Brisbane during the 2032 Games, Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys told reporters in Brisbane.
ARL boss Peter V’landys said Brisbane will host Magic Round every year until 2027.
V’landys is in Brisbane for the NRL Magic Round and announced Brisbane would now host the second-biggest event in the NRL calendar every year until 2027.
“It probably takes away from the Olympic Games,” V’landys initially joked.
“No, but that’s a great idea. We will certainly look at that and see how we can be partners during the Olympic Games,” he said.
“That would be great to get worldwide coverage for the greatest game for all.“
He said rugby league should be an Olympic sport and highlighted, as an example, the success of opening the 2024 NRL season in Las Vegas.
“We now have 20,000 new fans in America and an influx of new clubs in America wanting to start playing.“
Milton’s Caxton Street is closed from midday until Sunday evening for the NRL Magic Round FanFest.
“This is going to be party central for the Magic Round this weekend,” Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said.
