PGA Championship 2024, Scottie Scheffler arrested at Valhalla, detailed, what did he do, video, updates – MASHAHER

Stunning reports out of the US have claimed the world’s best golfer Scottie Scheffler has been detained by police hours before round two of the PGA Championship.

According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, a misunderstanding with traffic flow ended with Scheffler being confronted by a police officer, who placed him in handcuffs.

Darlington told ESPN’s Sportscentre that the situation moved “very quickly, very rapidly, very aggressively”

He also reported that Scheffler told Darlington, who was entering the property, “please help me”.

Darlington later posted vision of the arrest, in which a police officer tells him: “Right now he’s going to jail, and there ain’t nothing you can do about it”.

Scheffler, the world No.1 and reigning Masters champion, was the hot favourite to win the PGA Championship.

He posted four-under in the first round and sat five shots off early leader Xander Schauffele.

Scheffler is also playing his first tournament since becoming a father to son Bennett, who was born on May 8.

The shock arrest came on Friday morning local time in the aftermath of an entirely separate, fatal incident near the course, which had delayed the start of the second round.

According to Golf Digest senior writer Joel Beal, “a pedestrian was hit and killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla”, sparking the road closure.

It’s believed Scheffler was trying to get into the golf course for his second round tee time when the reported misunderstanding with police occurred.

Australian duo Cameron Smith and Lucas Herbert are in contention entering the second round of action at the PGA Championship at Valhalla, where American Xander Schauffele made a statement with a course record 62 on Friday morning.

The historic performance saw Schauffele sit 9-under with a three-shot lead over Sahith Theegala, Tony Finau and Mark Hubbard.

Smith is positioned six shots behind the leading Schauffele in a tie for 18th after recording four birdies and one bogey in the opening round, while Herbert is trailing closely behind after a 2-under 69.

Wet weather is expected for the second round of play, with the slight chance of a thunderstorm, although the rain itself is expected to be fairly intermittent, meaning there isn’t any real risk of a washout.

Either way, Smith said he is anticipating “a long week”.

“I think you know that at the start of the week anyway. It’s a major week,” he said after the opening round.

“It’s always more demanding, so plenty of rest this afternoon. Maybe get a few balls, clean some stuff up and yeah, get a good sleep tonight.”

Smith and Herbert, who received a special invitation to the PGA Championship, lead the Australian contingent with Jason Day the next closest at a share of 65th after an even-par opening round.

Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee, meanwhile, are even further back at a tie for 85th after finishing one-over while Cam Davis had a horror first round, rounding out the Australians on seven-over in a share for 150th.

As for the other contenders, Rory McIlroy put a tough week behind him as he took a share of fifth at five-under after the first round, which started less than 48 hours after his divorce filing from wife Erica became public.

“I sort of felt like it was pretty scrappy for the most part,” he said.

“I don’t really feel like I left many out there. I thought I got a lot out of my game today. Some good up-and-downs, the chip-in on 6.

“I had a little bit of a scrappy part around the turn there, but overall really happy with — not really happy with how I played but at least happy with the score.”
