Renowned actress Sharmila Tagore has shared poignant reflections on her experiences of balancing her illustrious career with the demands of motherhood, revealing that she grappled with feelings of regret over not always being fully present for her son, Saif Ali Khan. According to The Indian Express, speaking at a recent Mother’s Day event for YFLO, Tagore delved into the challenges she faced after becoming a mother for the first time, acknowledging the complexities of juggling work commitments and parenting responsibilities.

Recalling her early days as a mother, Tagore admitted to feeling like an “absent mother” during Saif’s formative years, particularly due to her hectic work schedule. She confessed that despite attending important events such as parent-teacher meetings and his school plays, she was unable to provide the level of presence and engagement she desired for her son. “For the first six years of his life, I remained absent,” she candidly revealed, highlighting the impact her career had on her ability to prioritize motherhood.
Despite her initial struggles, Tagore expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. She said “My husband was there, but I wasn’t. Then when I became a mother, I became an overzealous mother. I wanted to feed him, bathe him, and everything. That was the other side of the pendulum. I made a few mistakes, honestly.” While acknowledging her shortcomings, Tagore emphasized that Saif ultimately thrived, attesting to the resilience and adaptability of children in navigating familial challenges.
Saif Ali Khan, now a dedicated father himself, continues to uphold the values instilled by his parents while balancing his own career and parenting responsibilities.
