IPOH: A lorry driver was killed in a three-vehicle pile-up at KM367 southbound of the North South Expressway between Sungkai and Slim River.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer-in-charge Nashuha Fahd Ahmad Mijar said the victim, who was driving a lorry that was transporting eggs, was found trapped in his vehicle following the incident on Friday (May 17).

“We received the call at about 4.40am.

“When we arrived, we found three lorries, one which was transporting eggs and two that were loaded with fruits, that were involved in an accident,” he said in a statement.

“The driver of the lorry that was transporting eggs was rescued but confirmed to have died by medical personnel, while another driver was injured.

“The body has been handed over to the police for the next course of action,” he added.

Muallim OCPD Supt Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir said the accident has caused a 13km-long traffic snarl.

“All lanes have been blocked off due to some of the lorries falling onto its side.

“Motorists are advised to exit the expressway at the Tapah, Bidor and Sungkai tolls as alternative routes to avoid being trapped in the congestion, while efforts to resume normal traffic flow are underway,” he added.
