Heatwave conditions to continue over northwest India for 5 days: IMD | India News – MASHAHER



NEW DELHI: The Indian meteorological department on Saturday said that the heatwave conditions are ‘likely’ to continue over northwest India during the next 5 days and over eastern and central India for the next 3 days.
“Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions very likely in many pockets over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi during 18th-22nd May and in some parts of West Uttar Pradesh on 18th & 19th May, 2024,” a press released by the IMD said.
Isolated pockets in Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh are also expected to experience heat waves from May 18th to May 22nd. Additionally, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal may face heat waves from May 18th to May 20th, while Jharkhand will likely experience them on May 19th and May 20th. Moreover, Odisha is expected to encounter heat waves from May 20th to May 22nd.
IMD also said that Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into South Anadaman Sea around Sunday.
“Southwest Monsoon is very likely to advance into South Andaman Sea, some parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands around 19th May, 2024,” the IMD said in a post on ‘X’ on Saturday.
The weather agency said that ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ is expected to continue over south Peninsular India till May 23.
“Isolated extremely heavy rainfall also very likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during 19th-21st May, 2024,” the released said.
Agra recorded the highest maximum temperature of 46.9°C on May 17.
