Canada’s Damian Warner wins 8th Hypo Meeting decathlon – MASHAHER

Canada’s Damian Warner won his record eighth Hypo Meeting decathlon on Sunday in Götzis, Austria, his first multi-sport competition since finishing second at last year’s World Athletics Championships.

Trailing Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer entering the second day, the 34-year-old Warner took the points lead with a throw of 46.41 metres in the discus, nine metres farther than Ehammer’s 37.36m.

Warner, the 2020 Olympic champion, maintained his lead through the pole vault and javelin, entering the final event, the 1,500 metres, with a 223-point lead. His time of four minutes, 36.94 second gave him a winning score of 8,678, ahead of Netherland’s Sven Roosen (8,517) and Johannes Erm (8,462) of Estonia.

Warner’s teammate, 2023 world champion Pierce LePage, did not compete.
