Port Adelaide gun midfielder Ollie Wines has been subbed out of his side’s clash with Hawthorn at quarter-time due to heart palpitations.
Wines had previously been diagnosed with a heart condition in 2022, exiting a game against Melbourne early in the season and taken to hospital due to a similar issue.
“It’s more a heart rhythm issue that is pretty common in elderly people and elite athletes,” Wines said in 2022.

“Once it was explained to me it was very reassuring and there’s not too many long-term effects.”
The 2021 Brownlow medallist had seven disposals in the first term of Sunday’s game against Hawthorn before being subbed out for Brandon Zerk-Thatcher.
“It’ll be a developing story,” Channel 7 boundary rider Mark Soderstrom reported.
“I think the players can realise its happened before. Nathan Eagleton many years ago for Port Adelaide sort of collapsed on the ground.
“I think the players know if they go into that irregular heartbeat.
“(Wines) can actually feel that right now and I think that’s what they are dealing with.”
Hawks and Port legend Shaun Burgoyne added: “That is a huge story.”
