An extensive rescue operation is underway for a truck driver trapped inside a vehicle following a collision with a Sydney house causing significant structural damage.
Fire & Rescue NSW responded to an emergency call shortly after 6.30am on Tuesday with reports of a crash on Forrest Road near the intersection of Mimosa Road in Bexley.
On arrival, crews found that a small truck had veered off the road and collided with a residential home, severely impacting the structure and trapping the driver in the cab.
Firefighters began a rescue operation, starting with the disconnection of live electrical wires at the scene.
The truck driver is believed to have suffered a medical incident moments before the crash.
The extent of the driver’s injuries remains unknown but Fire & Rescue NSW confirmed the driver is conscious and communicating with rescue teams.
Six trucks and twenty firefighters are working to dismantle the damaged structure and safely extricate the driver for medical evaluation.
The structural damage has created a challenging situation for rescue crews, with Fire & Rescue crews reporting that if debris is moved it will impact the trapped driver.
7News reporter Angel Opie, told Sunrise: “There are major structural issues at the property, with part of the roof collapsing, bricks coming loose, and falling on the windscreen of the truck.”
A family of four residing in the home were evacuated without injury.
Traffic has been impacted as Forest Road between Mimosa Street and St Georges Road remains closed in both directions.
More to come.
