ABC News shared a dramatic video on Sunday, April 19th of a dog being rescued from the Hudson River in Hoboken, New Jersey on Saturday. The weather looked dreary and cold, and it’s unclear how the dog got into the water and far from the shore. Luckily, it took less than a minute for the man to get the dog back to safety.
The video begins with the dog already in the water. The water is moving quickly, and the dog appears to be struggling. The man wastes no time getting to the dog, and it gladly accepts the man’s help. Make sure your sound is on so you can hear the owner telling the man how to get the dog back to the shore.
The man is a hero! That water is COLD, about 55 degrees or so. I’m not sure that I would’ve been able to get in that water. We need more people like this man! ABC News commenter @Kelly agreed, “Swimming in the Hudson – that guy is invincible!” @Heather added, “That guy is amazing!! I can’t imagine how cold the water was.” @Grambo1961 made me laugh with, “Two things: This man is a hero and dogs rule. Second, after swimming in the Hudson River he is now immune to all diseases on earth”.

Dramatic Animal Rescues
I think it’s amazing that people value animals’ lives just as much as their own. There are many heroes that have helped animals in dire situations, putting their own lives on the line. And the animals seem to know that they are being helped and often do not fight or harm their rescuers even though they are scared and often leery of humans.
Like the dog in this video, a dog jumped over a Miami sea wall and had to be rescued. This man rescued his neighbor’s dog from a house fire. Talk about a good neighbor! Somehow a puppy got itself stuck in between two walls and a man patiently chiseled away at the walls to free it. This man braved a hurricane to save a cat, and this guy rescued a mama and her puppies from a flood.
Not all animal rescues are just cats and dogs. These Australian divers found a shark caught on a fishing hook and worked together to free it. And these rescued elephants are so appreciative of the human that cares for them that they come running when they see her.
Almost all of the rescues result in happy endings, but sadly, not all animal rescues are successful. The brave people that go out of their way to help these animals deserve to be applauded no matter what the outcome. They’re all heroes in my book!
