Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea after one season – MASHAHER

Chelsea have parted ways with manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The west London club said the move was by mutual consent.

The Argentinian manager, who joined Chelsea in July 2023, had a year left on his two-year contract.

It comes after Chelsea secured European football with a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League with a final-day win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

Whether it will be a place in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League depends on the result of Saturday’s FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United.

Pochettino endured a difficult start to his Chelsea career, which was plagued by injuries – including to club captain Reece James and vice-captain Ben Chilwell.

But a late charge – with five wins in their final five league games – ensured a European place for next season.

Sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season.

“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”

Mauricio Pochettino said: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history.

“The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
