After a scintillating first month of football, Mt Barker midfield star Daniel Patching stands alone at the top of the Great Southern Football League Coaches’ Player of the Year award.
Patching has been a frequent contributor to his side, who currently sit fourth on the ladder with two wins and two losses, polling votes from both coaches in every game this season.
He leads the pack with 25 votes but has yet to poll the top five votes from any coach this season. His eight total votes in the Bulls’ win over North Albany on Sunday pushed him further clear.
Patching’s stellar outing was overshadowed by Bulls’ key forward Sam Lehmann (10 votes), who booted a career-high nine goals in their 33-point win.
Albany superstar recruit Bailey Taylor is second with 21 votes after picking up nine votes in the past fortnight.
Teammate Isaac Baum and Railways rival Bailey Bennett are next with 18 votes after also enjoying a strong first month.
Baum polled a perfect 10 in their round three victory over co-tenants Royals, while Bennett, who missed the Tigers’ round three clash with the Bulls, earned four votes in his side’s round four loss to the Sharks.
Tigers’ on-baller Ryley Valli, who joined Bennett on the sidelines in round three, is fourth with 17 votes alongside Lions’ gun midfielder Declan McNamara.
McNamara was enormous in his side’s 57-point win over Denmark-Walpole last weekend, securing all 10 votes and taking home the match ball for Belt-Up Round.
Talented Magpies youngster Marlon Mastalerz has 16 votes despite his side being winless, while gun forward Travis Conn (14 votes) is the highest-ranked North Albany player.
