The Metropolitan Police has referred itself to the police watchdog after a man being pursued by officers died on the tracks at a Tube station in north London.

The force said it was called to Colindale station at about 1am on Sunday to reports of criminal damage and a fight.

The man entered the station when police arrived and ran on to the tracks after officers followed and tried to detain him.

It was then that he was fatally injured, the Met said.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and British Transport Police is also investigating.
