Shaktimaan, the iconic superhero from the beloved Doordarshan serial, is gearing up for a grand cinematic debut. Earlier reports suggested Ranveer Singh would be donning the Shaktimaan cape. While veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, the original Shaktimaan, initially expressed reservations about Singh being cast, recent developments suggest a possible shift.
Ranveer Singh meets OG Shaktimaan Mukesh; latter describes him as ‘good person with a dynamic personality’: “The most energetic actor in the industry”
In an interesting turn of events, Khanna met Ranveer Singh at his office a few days ago. Following the meeting, Khanna took to social media to clarify the situation and address fan theories. In a video message, Khanna expressed gratitude to his fans for their suggestions on who would be the ideal Shaktimaan. He acknowledged the diverse opinions flooding the comments section, with names like Vidyut Jammwal, Mohit Raina, Rajinikanth, Allu Arjun, and Ram Charan being thrown into the mix.
Khanna was particularly touched that some fans even considered him for the role, despite the passage of time. He shared photos of Ranveer Singh’s visit and spoke highly of the actor. He described Ranveer as a “very good person with a dynamic personality.” While Khanna maintained some secrecy regarding their conversation, he revealed they discussed a wide range of topics for 3-4 hours. He even praised Ranveer as “the most energetic actor in the industry.”
Despite the positive meeting, Khanna emphasized that no final decision has been made regarding the lead role. Sharing the video, he captioned the post on Instagram, “Pura desh janana chahta hai. Shaktimaan kaun? Including me. Breaking news baaki hai. Speculation jaari hai. Aasman ki bulandiyon par hai. Kyonki Shaktimaan ko chahne wale asankhya hain. Desh bhar aur even Videshon me phaile hue hain. Recently Title ke strong dawedar Ranveer singh aaye mujhse milne. Kaafi baaten hueen. Lekin Ghadi ki sui abhi bhi waheen ruki padhi hai. Oont kis karwat baithega kisi ko naheen pata. Baithane dijiye phir bataunga aapko. Kyonki Shaktimaan Aap ke liye ban raha hai, Mere liye naheen [The whole country wants to know. Who is Shaktimaan? Including me. Breaking news is pending. Speculation continues. It is sky high. Because those who want Shaktimaan are helpless. It has been spread across the country and even in television. Recently I met the strong claimant of the title Ranveer Singh. We spoke a lot. But the needle of Ghadi is still standing still. No one knows what work the camel will do. Give me some water and then you will fight again. Because Shaktimaan is being made for you, not for me.]”
Earlier reports revealed that director Basil Joseph, known for his work on Minnal Murali, has been working on the Shaktimaan script for over two years. Joseph envisions a unique portrayal of Shaktimaan in the superhero space, distinct from his work with Tovino Thomas. The script is said to be more character-driven with a strong emotional core, although action sequences will still be present. Speculation about a Shaktimaan trilogy starring Singh were also circulating. However, sources confirmed this was untrue. The current focus is solely on the first film. The franchise’s future will depend on its reception.
Joseph will collaborate with writers from Minnal Murali, Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew, along with the popular TVF series Gullak fame Durgesh Singh to bring Shaktimaan’s magic to the big screen. Scripting is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, followed by a massive pre-production phase. Filming is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025, targeting a festive release in 2026.
