A paramedic zooms to a mountain rescue

in Romania using a jet suit

::Rimetea, Romania

The flight to the mock casualty took two minutes,

when the hike would take 2.5 hours

The demonstration in the Trascaului Mountains in Transylvania saw the jet suit developer Gravity Industries’ founder and CEO Richard Browning collaborating with Romania’s Department for Emergency Situations, to fly the 500m elevation to a mock-casualty in just two minutes, a hike that typically takes a mountain rescue team on foot two and a half hours.

The technology has been in development since 2017 and the latest 3D-printed version has 7 miniature jet engines, 2 on each arm and three in the back pack, developing 1500 horse power (1100KW) and capable of reaching speeds in excess of 85 mph (136kph) at more than 12000 feet (3650m), although for safety reasons they normally hug the terrain at much slower speeds.

The company has worked closely with civilian and military customers in various countries to demonstrate the Jet Suit’s ability to move specialist personnel over any terrain, night or day, in most weather conditions.
