A team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch will arrive in India to investigate the killing of Bangladeshi lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anwar, who was found dead in Kolkata earlier this week.
According to Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) sources, a team of Bangladesh detective branch comprising three top officers including the detective chief Harunan Rashid Minto is scheduled to land in Kolkata on Sunday, May 26. Minto will be accompanied by other two officers- Sayeedur Rahman and Abdul Ahar.
The Bangladeshi investigation team will hold a meeting with the Bengal CID team at the West Bengal police headquarters, following which they will be visiting the crime scene alongside a few other places.
Earlier this week, a Bangladeshi Minister said that their MP Anwarul Azim was confirmed dead in Kolkata by the West Bengal Police.
Anwarul, an MP of the ruling Awami League, had come to Kolkata for medical treatment on May 12, following which he was reported to be missing. A general diary was filed by the Kolkata Police on May 18 following his disappearance.
The three-time MP Anwarul was killed in a flat in the Newtown area, where he went to meet someone, said the police sources.
On Friday, a woman who might have been used to “honey trap” Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim before he was murdered was detained in Dhaka.
The woman, identified as Shilanti Rahman, is a Bangladeshi national and the girlfriend of the prime accused Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, Bangladesh police sources told India Today.
