Celtic pip Rangers in Scottish Cup final to seal double – MASHAHER

Celtic have beaten Rangers 1-0 in a cagey Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park, sealing victory with a 90th-minute winner from Adam Idah as Brendan Rodgers’s side completed the league and cup double.

The match was by no means a classic and seemed destined for extra time on Saturday when Idah, who joined the club on loan from Norwich City earlier this year, popped up in the right place at the right time to score and give Celtic a record-extending 42nd Scottish Cup triumph.

The victory ensured Rodgers completed the same double that Ange Postecolglou had achieved with Celtic last season before his move to Tottenham, althoygh the Australian also made it a treble with their Scottish League Cup win too.

Celtic scored when Paulo Bernardo dribbled into the final third and took a shot from the edge of the box that was palmed away by goalkeeper Jack Butland, but Idah had peeled away from his marker to fire home the rebound.

“I said I’d come here to try and score as many goals as I could, I didn’t think I’d score a goal like this in front of all these fans. It’s an amazing feeling,” Idah said.

“It’s hard to put into words. Anyone here can see what it means to the fans, to the players. I’ve always supported Celtic, it’s amazing.”

Rangers, meanwhile, have finished runners-up in both the Premiership and the Scottish Cup this season but did not finish the campaign empty-handed having won the League Cup.

Rangers thought they had scored from a corner on the hour mark when Abdallah Sima netted at the far post but it was chalked off following a VAR review which showed Nicolas Raskin had fouled Celtic keeper Joe Hart.
