Dolphins press conference, Warriors defeat Dolphins, Dolphins away record, Wayne Bennett, rugby league news – MASHAHER

Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett has cheekily shot back at a journalist who referenced his side’s poor record outside of Queensland.

The loss to the Warriors in New Zealand was the Dolphins’ 15th from 17 games outside of their home state since their inception into the NRL at the start of last season.

When a journalist mentioned this dire record, Bennett responded in a typically dry manner.

“You’re a stats man, good on ya. I hope they give us more in Queensland,” he said.

“I didn’t even know we couldn’t win out of Queensland. I assume you know much more than I do.

“I don’t worry about where we win or lose. Away games are always difficult because you’re playing at the home of the opposition and they have their crowd behind them.

“Honest to god I didn’t even think about that.”

Bennett was pleased with his side’s effort in the 24-20 loss, but admitted execution let them down.

The Dolphins led 16-6 but conceded the next three tries to the home side, who were missing a stack of stars including Shaun Johnson, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Wayde Egan and Addin Fonua-Blake.

“A lot of effort no result,” Bennett said.

“It was pretty obvious (when the game turned in the Warriors favour). The penalties, a couple of dropped balls cost us two tries. Not hard to work out.

“It didn’t matter who (Warriors) they played, they were always going to play the way they play.”

Bennett later had one final dig at the end of the press conference.

“We’re playing Canberra next week which will be a tough game but the good news is we’re at home so that’ll help us,” Bennett directed at the reporter with a smirk.
