MELAKA: Crocodile threats along the riverbank of Sungai Malim here are still far from over despite the recent capture of the reptile at Kampung Tengah, Pulau Gadong here, said Datuk Lim Ban Hong.

The Klebang assemblyman said there are still crocodiles lurking along the river based on earlier sightings by villagers and residents.

“Crocodiles have been sighted along the river for a long time but the reptiles had turned aggressive in recent months,” he said when interviewed on Sunday (May 26).

Lim also urged the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to continue monitoring the situation and set up traps.

“Children should be discouraged from going close to the riverbank for now,” he said.

On Saturday (May 25), Perhilitan managed to capture a three-metre-long saltwater crocodile using a trap along the riverbank in Pulau Gadong.

The trap was set up after crocodile fear hit residents living along Sungai Malim in Klebang, since early this month.

Apart from unleashing terror, the reptiles also stealthily sneaked into the area close to the riverbank where their livestock grazed before mauling them.
