FIFA and UEFA âabused their dominant positionâ and âprevented free competitionâ by opposing the creation of a European Super League, a Spanish court said on Monday.
The ruling, which echoed an earlier ruling by European Court of Justice, ordered footballâs two governing bodies âto halt their anti-competitive behaviourâ which had imposed âunjustified and disproportionate restrictionsâ on free competition within the market, the court said in a case filed by the promoters of the Super League.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are strong supporters of the project that most of Europeâs other big clubs have abandoned.
