Great Manchester Run: Man dies after collapsing – MASHAHER

A 40-year-old man has died after collapsing during the Great Manchester Run.

The man is understood to have received medical treatment after falling ill during the half-marathon event through the city on Sunday.

The runner – who later died in hospital – was one of around 30,000 people taking part in the 21km (13.1 miles) race.

The Great Run Company sent their “heartfelt condolences to the man’s family and friends”.

No further details on the man have been released at this stage.

The event, which also included a 10km run (6.2 miles), was broadcast on the BBC and took place ahead of the victory parade for Premier League champions Manchester City.

Thousands lined up on the streets to cheer participants on on Sunday’s event – which also included a wheelchair race.

It began on Portland Street and ended on Deansgate with runners passing by the city’s iconic Old Trafford stadium.

It first began as a 10km race back in 2003, before expanding to include a half-marathon event in 2017.
