Anurag Kashyap’s daughter Aaliyah Kashyap and Imtiaz Ali’s daughter Ida Ali were once held captive by their house help. During a recent podcast, Aaliyah sat down with Ida, whom she considers more of a sister than a best friend. She mentioned she has “trauma bonded” with Ida and narrated their “kidnapping story.”
While recalling the “traumatic” experience, Aaliyah said, “We were not technically kidnapped because we were at home. We were a part of a robbery.” However, Ida added, “I don’t know what could have happened as we were taken hostage.”
Aaliyah and Ida lived in the same building during their childhood. Once, their parents were going out together, so they decided to stay at Aaliyah’s home under the watch of her maternal grandmother.
“Her parents and my parents were going out together somewhere, and she (Ida) was staying at my house, and my nani was there. My nani was watching us, and so was our didi, who was working in our house at the time,” recalled Aaliyah. But soon, everything took a dramatic turn.
“Didi locked my nani in a room after my parents left. She taped Ida’s and my mouth and tied our hands to a chair. We were crying and yelling because we thought we were going to die. So, basically, she was stealing stuff from the house. She was stealing jewellery and money or whatever was in the house,” she shared.
Aaliyah’s mother, Aarti Bajaj, returned home within 15 minutes as she had forgotten something and witnessed everything happening in her house.
“Thankfully, my mom had left something, and she came back like 15–20 minutes later to pick it up, and she saw everything that had happened. She called her parents, my Dad, and everyone back, and they freaked out. It was obviously traumatic, but it would have been a lot more traumatic if we had gone through that alone,” said Aaliyah.
However, now when Ida and Aaliyah look back at the story, they have a good laugh about it.
