Shoppers traveling along upper Peach Street will soon have a chance to grab a quick oil change between visits to Walmart and Target.

Construction continued this week on a Take 5 Oil Change franchise at 7541 Peach St., at the intersection with Downs Drive just north of Interstate 90.

Summit Township officials confirmed the business’ identity. A spokeswoman for Take 5’s parent company, Driven Brands, said the business is tentatively set to open by late September.

“It’s a small lot but a great location,” said Jack Lee, Summit Township supervisor. “They have some work to do to get it ready, but it’s progressing.”

Take 5 started 40 years ago near New Orleans

Take 5 started in 1984 as Rapid Oil Change and currently has 60 locations, mostly in the southeastern United States. They offer quick oil changes, with the customer able to remain in their vehicle.

The company plans to open eight new locations in Pennsylvania, including the one in Summit Township, in 2024.

A sister company, Take 5 Car Wash, started in 2020.

Summit Township intersection has seen increased traffic

Lee said the intersection where the Take 5 Oil Change will be located has seen a marked increase in traffic over the past several years.

“PennDOT did a 24-hour survey, I’d say six or seven years ago, and they found 22,000 vehicles went through the intersection,” Lee said. “We were able to conduct a 24-hour survey on a Wednesday in the middle of last July, and found 33,000 vehicles had gone through the intersection.”
