Real Madrid’s 15th Champions League title was more difficult than expected: Ancelotti – MASHAHER

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said that his side’s 15th UEFA Champions League title was more difficult than he had expected as they were pushed to the limit by Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1, Saturday. The German side was by far the better team in the first half as they had a host of chances to take a big lead. However, Los Blancos turned things around in the second 45 minutes to win the final.

Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. scored in the 74th and 83rd minutes to hand Madrid their 15th UCL crown in the end. Speaking after the win, Ancelotti said that he could never get used to the feeling and felt they were far better in the second half. The Italian tactician said his side were a bit lazy in the first half.

“I never get used to it, because it was difficult, very difficult, more than expected. In the second half we were better, more balanced, fewer losses… This is a dream that continues,” Ancelotti told Spanish TV station Movistar Plus+.

“In the first half we were a bit lazy, we had losses and they played what they wanted. They came out on the counter-attack and were very dangerous,” the Italian added.

What Ancelotti said about Kroos hug

The match was the final one for Toni Kroos with Real Madrid as the German midfielder will retire after Euros 2024. Kroos got the assist for the first goal and also had two free-kicks saved by the Dortmund goalkeeper. Ancelotti would share a hug with the German after the game and said it was a bit of a sad moment for him.

However, the Madrid boss said that Kroos wanted to finish with a win in the final.

“It’s a bit of a sad moment, but he wanted to finish like that,” said Kroos.

Ancelotti also said he would celebrate the win now with a cigar and cibeles.

“A cigar. And Cibeles,” said Ancelotti.

With the win, Real Madrid completed a double this season after having won the LaLiga title in convincing fashion. This was also Ancelotti’s 5th UCL title and his third one with Los Blancos.
