National Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) candidate and sitting MP Supriya Sule is likely in a leading position in Maharashtra’s Baramati where she is in a direct fight with her sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar, the India Today Exit My India exit poll predicted on Saturday.
The Baramati seat, a traditional stronghold of the Pawar family, witnessed a Pawar vs Pawar battle in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
The primary battle is between Supriya Sule — a three-time MP and daughter of NCP (Sharad Pawar) supremo Sharad Pawar — and Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Ajit Pawar, who switched to the BJP-led NDA and is now the NCP president and deputy Chief Minister.
Additionally, Sharad Pawar, an Independent candidate and auto-driver, is also in the fray.
This election is noteworthy as it marks the first significant challenge Sharad Pawar faces in his bastion from within his family.
In the past three elections, NCP’s Supriya Sule won the seat, solidifying the Pawar family’s hold over it.
In 2019, Supriya Sule secured 686,714 votes, defeating BJP’s Kanchan Rahul Kool.
