DENVER (KDVR) — A plane crashed in the front yard of an Arvada home on Friday morning, sending four people to the hospital.

According to a tweet from the Arvada Police Department, there were reports of a small aircraft crash on Friday around 9:30 a.m.

Witness describes plane ‘weaving back and forth’ before crashing in Arvada

The plane struck a fence and tree at Oberon Road and Balsam Street before crashing into a yard of a home at the corner of Oberon Road and Brentwood Drive.

Two adults and two juveniles were taken to a hospital. The extent of their injury is unclear.

Based on the pictures taken by the police, FOX31 and viewers on the scene, crews were handling fire and smoke coming from the plane, which appears to be in pieces. Just after 10 a.m., FOX31’s Samantha Spitz said the smoke appeared to be out.

Last communication from the aircraft

Based on recordings from Air Traffic Control, a Beechcraft Bonanza N150WR called the tower in Jefferson County reporting a low oil pressure light. The pilot asked for a priority landing.

Minutes later, the pilot called the tower again and reported extreme power loss. The pilot tells the tower that they’re not going to make it and that they’re looking for a place to “park.”

This was the last communication the tower had with the aircraft.

Witness describes moments surrounding plane crash

Witnesses told FOX31 that neighbors helped pull people out of the plane.

One witness, Evan Sherlock, was live speaking with FOX31. He said he was driving in Arvada to get mulch for his front yard when he saw a plane flying extremely low, weaving back and forth and dipping wings.

At first, he kept driving, until he looked in his rearview mirror and the plane was gone. Sherlock made a U-turn and found the plane in the front yard of a home.

“I couldn’t believe that’s what I just saw. I was hoping that it was doing something else,” said Sherlock. “I could see smoke coming out of it, and at first it looked like a crop duster to me. and then I was like ‘There’s no way, why would you be crop dusting in Arvada?’ But obviously something was mechanically wrong with the airplane, and it was just entirely too low for it to be doing anything safe.”

At the scene, he saw debris from the plane in the front yard.

Officials detail plane crash, response

Officials held a press conference at 11 a.m. detailing what authorities know so far.

Around 9:30 a.m., Deputy Chief Matt Osier said Arvada Fire was notified of an aircraft emergency. Upon arrival, there was a fire present with a few people injured.

At this time, it’s unclear how many people were on the aircraft but four people were taken to the hospital. It’s unclear if the injuries were from people on the plane or bystanders.

Osier said the hazmat crew is on the scene for a potential fuel spill and they’re preparing for a National Transportation Safety Board investigation.

This is a developing story. FOX31 will update this article when more information becomes available.
