The Karnataka High Court on Friday granted interim anticipatory bail to Bhavani Revanna, wife of Karnataka MLA HD Revanna, in a kidnapping case linked to a sexual harassment complaint against her son and former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna.
The High Court also instructed Bhavani Revanna to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) from 1 pm to 5 pm on Friday. Following the direction, Bhavani, who had been absconding for the past few days, appeared before the SIT.
According to the police, a woman from KR Nagar who filed a sexual harassment complaint against Prajwal was allegedly kidnapped to prevent her from testifying against him. Bhavani is facing charges linked to the kidnap and allegedly helping her son, who is accused of sexually abusing several women.
The interim bail has been granted until June 14 when the court will hear the case. Justice Krishna S Dixit ordered Bhavani to remain in Bengaluru, and she has also been restricted from entering KR Nagar or Hassan.
The SIT had issued an arrest warrant with the court’s direction against Bhavani Revanna. This warrant has also been kept in abeyance.
Prajwal Revanna, who is facing rape charges, was arrested on May 31 when he arrived in Bengaluru from Germany, where he was staying to evade arrest. Prajwal, who was the NDA Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan, fled the country on April 27 after several videos allegedly showing him sexually harassing multiple women emerged, stirring a massive row.
Meanwhile, the High Court adjourned the proceedings of HD Revanna’s plea seeking to quash the FIR against him to June 1, as well as the SIT’s plea to cancel his bail until June 14.
HD Revanna is facing two cases–one of sexual harassment and the other of kidnap.
In another development, the SIT has reportedly detained Bhavani’s car driver in connection with the kidnapping case.
