South Sydney lead the Titans 10-6 after 25 minutes in what has been an entertaining contest on the Gold Coast.

Latrell Mitchell is hoping to stake his claim for a Blues jersey, and he’s done his case no harm so far, scoring the first try of the game.

“Latrell’s taking the game on… He’s got a point to prove,” Corey Parker said on Fox League.

MATCH PREVIEW

The Gold Coast Titans are looking to build on their recent run of form as they face a South Sydney Rabbitohs side desperate to lift themselves off the bottom of the ladder on Saturday.

The Titans are coming off a 36-34 win over Brisbane and have now won three of their last five, with the two losses coming in tight fashion against Newcastle and Melbourne.

In fact, even before their breakthrough 27-24 victory over the Warriors, the Gold Coast had lost by a combined five points to Canberra and Manly.

In other words, the Titans have been in every game they have played in since early April and this week will be bolstered by the return of the versatile Jayden Campbell from a knee injury.

Meanwhile, South Sydney may have also turned a corner after breaking its losing skid with a 42-26 win over Parramatta — although the 26 points against is still a major concern.

The Titans haven’t been the best defensive team in the league for years though and so the Rabbitohs will consider themselves a strong chance of making it two on the trot.

With Joseph Suaalii suspended and unavailable for Game 2 of the State of Origin series, Saturday’s game doubles as an early audition for Blues hopeful Latrell Mitchell.
