JERUSALEM, June 8 (Xinhua) — U.S. carrier Delta Air Lines resumed operations in Israel after an eight-month hiatus, with a flight departing from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and landing on Saturday at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv.
The airline has suspended flights to Israel following the outbreak of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023.
It partially resumed daily flights between New York and Tel Aviv, while routes from Boston and Atlanta to Israel remain paused.
Delta said in a statement that the decision to resume flights came after an extensive security risk assessment, emphasizing that the airline continues to closely monitor the situation in Israel in conjunction with government and private-sector partners.
Delta thus became the second U.S. airline, following United Airlines in early March, to resume flights to Israel.
United halted flights again after the Iranian attack against Israel in mid-April and resumed operations in the country on Friday.
