(Reuters) – Czech Republic midfielder Michal Sadilek will not be travelling to the European Championship in Germany after falling off a bike and hurting his leg, the national team’s spokesperson said on Sunday.
The 25-year-old featured in the last Euros in 2020. He has played 24 matches for his country and scored one goal.
On Friday Sadilek captained the side and played the full 90 minutes in a 7-1 victory over Malta in a warm-up friendly.
“Sadilek unfortunately fell while riding his bike and suffered a laceration in the leg,” the national team’s spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday.
“This is a big setback for us, because Michal is one of our experienced players,” Czech Republic coach Ivan Hasek said. “It was not without reason that he wore the captain’s armband during the match against Malta.”
Czech Republic will play North Macedonia in a friendly on Monday before starting their Euros 2024 campaign against Portugal in Group F on June 18.
