Security forces discovered explosives under the ground in plum orchards in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on Sunday, and destroyed those.
Upon receiving information, the Special Operations Group (SOG) – also known as the anti-militancy task force in Jammu and Kashmir – of Kakapora along with personnel from the 183 BN of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrived at the location in Nihama village.
The security forces began digging the area in the plum orchards, and were soon joined by the Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army.
They found two boxes deep inside the ground inside which the IED was kept.
The bomb disposal team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army was called to the spot, who defused the explosives.
This incident came almost a week after two top terrorists associated with the Pakistan-based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama.
The terrorists were identified as Kashmir Valley operational commander Riyaz Shethri and his associate Rayees Dar, officials said.
Riyaz had been active since 2015 and was categorised as A+ for his role in over 20 terror-related incidents, including targeted killings, grenade attacks, and terror recruitment, officials said. He had a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
