Howdy footy fans, and welcome to today’s King’s Birthday clash and Big Freeze 10 event between Melbourne and Collingwood at the MCG. I am Jon Pierik and I will be guiding you through this game. Roy Ward will start us off and I will take the baton from him a little closer to game time.
There is much riding on this contest – the Demons have a major point to prove after last weekend’s 92-point loss to Fremantle in Darwin, a performance coach Simon Goodwin said was “totally unacceptable”. It was the Demons’ largest defeat since Goodwin took charge. The Demons (7-5) have slipped to tenth on the ladder heading into this round, but are outside the top eight only on percentage.
For the injury-hit Magpies (6-4-2), they had their first defeat last weekend, to the Western Bulldogs, since round three. The Magpies had led by two goals at the final change. They began the round in ninth spot, also outside the top eight only on percentage.
The Big Freeze festivities begin from 2pm AEST.
