Producer Vipul Shah has worked extensively with Akshay Kumar in 4 out of his 8 directorial ventures – Aankhen (2002), Waqt (2005), Namastey London (2007) and Action Replayy (2010). The superstar also featured in Vipul’s productions like Singh Is Kinng (2008) and Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014). All these films are of different genres and showed Akshay’s acting prowess in all its glory. Off late, however, Akshay Kumar is going through a bad phase as none of his recent films have worked, except OMG 2 (2023). Bollywood Hungama recently spoke exclusively with Vipul Shah on the tenth anniversary of Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty. When asked what Akshay Kumar should do to get back in the big league, the veteran filmmaker gave an interesting answer.
EXCLUSIVE: Vipul Shah talks about Akshay Kumar’s recent track record: “Seniors ko salaah dene ki bewakoofi karni nahin chahiye; many must have advised Sachin Tendulkar as well but he himself must have figured out how to come out of his lean phases”
Vipul Shah said, “We consider Sachin Tendulkar the God of cricket. He has gone through lean phases in his career. Many must have advised him as well but he himself must have figured out how to come out of these phases.”
He continued, “It is said that form is temporary, class is permanent. Hence, I believe that for an actor who has worked in 150-odd films, he understands the industry better than most people. I am sure he’s also concerned about his (recent track record). However, I don’t think he needs advice from a person like me. He’s way more intelligent and smarter than I think I am. I am sure very soon, he’ll be back in his full form and he’ll be back to delivering blockbusters, which he has done for years.” He further stated, “When somebody is so senior, unko salaah dene ki bewakoofi karni nahin chahiye!”
It’s been almost six years since Vipul Shah directed a film. His last directorial flick, Namaste England, starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, was released in 2018. When asked when we can expect his next directorial venture, he revealed, “Within two weeks, you’ll hear an announcement.”
