The Delhi Police on Monday clarified that the animal spotted during the live telecast of the oath-taking ceremony was a common house cat and not a wild animal.
Narendra Modi took the oath as the Prime Minister of India for a third straight term on Sunday. Along with him, 71 of his ministers were also sworn in at the Rashtrapati Bhavan
A short video clip of the ceremony had gone viral in which Internet users noticed an animal roaming in the corridors of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Several social media users speculated that the animal seen in the video was a leopard and highlighted the security breach.
Hours later, the Delhi Police clarified, “These facts are not true, the animal captured on camera is a common house cat. Please don’t adhere to such frivolous rumours.”
Narendra Modi took the oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term on Sunday. This is historic as no Prime Minister other than Jawaharlal Nehru, the first PM of Independent India, has returned for a third term as the PM. On this historic day, a total of 72 leaders — including the Prime Minister — were sworn in to be part of the Modi 3.0 ministry.
The new Cabinet includes 30 Cabinet ministers, five Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State.
