Selangor MCA plans to lodge MACC report on DRT project – MASHAHER

PETALING JAYA: Selangor MCA Youth plans to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) this week regarding the Selangor government’s Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) project.

Petaling Jaya MCA division youth chief Andy Teoh Tuck Wah said they had previously filed a police report on May 29, allowing authorities to investigate Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd.

He said the police concluded that the matter should be referred to the MACC for further action.

“It is classified as a Referral to Another Agency (RLA), so we will go to MACC this week to lodge a report,” Teoh said during a press conference on Monday (June 10).

Teoh said that the intention in lodging the report is to prompt an investigation by the relevant authorities and not to accuse anyone prematurely, particularly since the project involves public funds.

“Whether it is a proof of concept, a contract, or something else, we don’t know. If there is nothing wrong, then let the relevant authorities clarify. This includes the Selangor government affirming that it is a proof of concept and no money will be paid to them,” he added.

MCA Youth had previously urged the MACC to make an open and transparent investigation into the DRT project.

On June 6, MCA Youth secretary-general Saw Yee Fung submitted a memorandum at the MACC headquarters urging action from the commission. The memorandum highlighted that 25 other ride-hailing companies are licensed by the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad).

Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd’s participation in the DRT has caused a public uproar with several quarters demanding that the Selangor government reveal how the firm was awarded the project.

The company was founded in 2018 by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s husband, Ramachandran Muniandy who is Asia Mobility Technologies chief executive officer.

Yeoh had on June 1 said she welcomed the probe into Asia Mobility which provided a proof of concept (POC) for the DRT project.

The DRT is a demand-based ride-sharing public transit service to improve last- and first-mile connectivity for public transport services.

It is part of the RM25mil Selangor Mobiliti initiative announced in the state’s 2023 budget to improve the public transport ecosystem.
